The Burns Supper was a huge success and our demonstration team was very well received.
Glenbrook Lodge was also a successful evening which the senior residents enjoy very much. Thanks go to the dancers who attended and brought along "goodies."
The Demonstration Team has been busy performing at various venues. They danced on "Out of the Fog," Rogers Cable TV station, which was very good publicity for us. They also performed at the dinner of the Provincial Tournament of Hearts which was held here in January, and then again at the Suzuki concert at St. David's Church in February.
Strathspey Kuban Appeal. A great evening of dancing was had by all who attended. We had a number of people dressing as a particular dance, which included, The Piper and the Penguin, Haste to the Wedding, The Fisherman's Reel, Atlantic Bound, Shiftin' Bobbins, The Gay Gordons, Highland Rambler, Wicked Willie, White Heather Jig, Blooms of Bon Accord, Trip to Bavaria, Gypsy Glen and others.
We collected $165.70 which has been sent to Fiona Grant in the U.K. who spearheaded the appeal. (In our Jan. newsletter we incorrectly named HQ in Scotland as spearheading this - our apologies). Thank you Martin Mulligan for scanning the photo.

Our March social was not very well attended due to sickness and dancers being out of the province. However, it was a particularly relaxed, fun, evening which everyone really enjoyed. Amongst the food at the end of the evening, Noreen had made a cheese dip which was delicious, and by popular request she gives us the recipe.
1 pkg. cream cheese - 250g. size
1/3 cup Miracle Whip
1 1/2 cups grated Monterey Jack cheese
1/3 cup finely chopped red pepper or green onion tops
sliced blanched almonds
Soften cream cheese and mix until smooth. Stir in Miracle Whip and combine well. Fold in grated cheese followed by red pepper (or green onion). Spread into a pie plate and sprinkle sliced blanched almonds on the surface. Refrigerate until ready to serve. To serve, heat in 350 degree oven for 15 mins. Serve with dipping crackers.
Note: when using green onion, I add a teaspoonful of onion powder. - Noreen
Workshop. Included with this newsletter is the Registration Form for the August Workshop. If you register before June 15th you save $10. It seems a long way ahead but it is encouraging if we see a lot of our dancers registered well in advance.
The Nominating Committee will be looking for volunteers for the new Executive. I you are approached, please give serious consideration to having your name put forward. We cannot operate efficiently without an Executive taking care of the day-to-day running of the group.
ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING. The AGM will be held April 26th at Gower Street, starting at 6.30 p.m. The reason for the early start is that we will have a pot luck supper to begin with, followed by the meeting at 7.30 p.m. and then dancing. Please bring along a plate and cutlery and if bringing hot food, could it arrive hot so we don't have to use the oven. We will try and start promptly at 6.30 p.m.
Dementia. In a study published in the New England Journal of Medicine, researchers found that among several physical activities studied, dancing was the only one that was associated with a lower risk of dementia. Other leisure activities such as reading, playing board games and playing musical instruments were also associated with lower risk. The researchers say that the more the study subjects participated in these activities, the lower their risk. (From Winnipeg Branch Sept. '03).
Don't miss classes if you want to avoid dementia!
