Chris gave the usual introduction. Here is something interesting: http://dingo.care-mail.com/cards/flash/S409/galaxy.swf (1 MB Flash file).
Motion made by Fred Smith. We should adopt new By-Laws based closely on the "Sample Centre By-Laws" that the National RASC has developed. A template of the amendments to the standard "Sample By-Laws" was distributed. A copy of this template is quoted below.
So far, there are no takers for the 2008 AGM. There was some discussion amongst the general membership. In the end it was decided that things in St. John's would be pretty much the same (eg. tourist attractions, residences at MUN, etc.). Other eastern Centres have also not yet had a shot. There was lukewarm support at best, only slightly rising for the more dire situation of the AGM having to be cancelled.
Calendars will be on sale for $15.
The Orionids and Leonids will both be near the new moon. Saturn is visible in the early morning. Mercury is low in the west.
Chris looked for some feedback on holding workshops. These could be during a regular meeting, or at other times. Topics under discussion included telescope use for beginners (though anyone with a telescope problem would be encouraged to bring their scope) and planetary imaging with a webcam.
Randy is the chair of the nominating committee this year. He noted that all positions are available. Members can get in touch with him if they have any questions (email the Secretary below for his address).
Ben graciously donated his copy of the "Universe and Beyond", Third Edition, to the Centre's library. Ben has made a previous donation.
