RASC St. John's Centre Monthly Meeting
March 17, 2004

1. Randy's Introduction.

Little bit of a storm happening. GA2004. Randy mentioned about how our by-laws will be changed to reflect the new privacy law. National has sent down by-law suggestions. Venus transit this summer. We will be working with Parks Canada (4-5 am). The transit will be at the mid-way point when the sun rises here.

2. Observing.

Ben Llewellyn: Venus, Jupiter and all 4 of its moons. Gary Oakley: a very large appearing sun on the horizon. Garry Dymond: Comet Linear T7 (needed a 3" scope). Robert Babb: Saturn, 850X, saw Cassini division.

3. Ben on Sedna.

This is the new planet/planetoid/KBO/pick your choice.

4. Mars Geology.

The group discussed the geology of Mars in light of the recent Mars Rover Missions.

5. Binoculars, etc.

Gary Oakley showed off his new binoculars, complete with tripod. Also recommended was Brian Greene's "The Elegant Universe".

6. Coffee.
