RASC St. John's Centre Monthly Meeting
April 21, 2004

1. Randy's Introduction.

GA will be July 2-4, we would appreciate volunteers. Contact Garry Dymond for information, or any executive member. So far, we have 40 registrants for the GA. Star-B-Que will be taking place Aug. 20-22. Randy also noted we will have a transit of Venus here in the morning of June 8.

2. Gary Case on Observing. Crescent of Venus.

Mars and Venus will be close for approximately a week, with the moon between them on Friday morning. He also spoke on Saturn (rings are favourable) and Jupiter. The Lyrids will also be taking place with a Zenithal Hourly Rate of 20. Gary also introduced us to the Clear Sky Clock (can be found on our website's main page).

3. Randy on GA.

Randy took us to our GA website at http://www.rasc.ca . Although members have to pay to attend the GA, the Helen Sawyer Hogg lecture is available for free to members of the general public. Dr. Sara Schechner of Harvard University will speak on "Harvard's Own John Winthrop and his Transit of Venus Expedition".
