The Stop Smoking Program for Women has been having great success! In St. Mary's Bay, Public Health Nurse, Kelly Power-Kean, has held sessions at the Riverhead Fitness Center, with an average of 5 - 9 participants per week attending, two of which significantly reduced their smoking habits.

Stop Smoking Program for Women sessions were also held in Holyrood, Co-facilitated by Shirley LaCour, a volunteer with the Canadian Cancer Society, and Joan Blackmore, Health and Community Services, Eastern Region. Some of the highlights included "quit day"; blowing into the carbon monxide monitor; making "top hats" and the closing celebration. A wide range of topics were covered in the sessions, including, stress management, relaxation breathing, withdrawal, roadblocks, positive self-talk, grief, self-esteem, nutrition, physical activity, heart effects and healing.
