Northern
Healthy Heart Potluck Hosted in Roddickton
In February, 2001, approximately 15 staff participated in a potluck lunch hosted by
staff of the White Bay Central Health Center. A variety of stir-fry, fish dishes,
casseroles and multi-grain breads were served, along with a hearty dessert of
apple-partridgeberry crisp. The recipes that were collected will be compiled into a
heart health cookbook.
Foodland Heart Health Fair
A Foodland Heart Health Fair was held in March , 2001 at a local grocery store in
Roddickton. Approximately 70 shoppers participated in blood pressure checks, glucometer
checks, and diet reviews . Draws were held for prizes including Heart Health T-shirts,
mugs, and pens.
Forteau
- Fifteen people attended a Heart Health in the Workplace Healthy Meal
Event for community health staff in March, 2001.
- A Healthy Heart information display was also posted in the Community
Health staff lounge.
Bird Cove
A presentation to a group of 32 women in Bird Cove was held focusing on healthy eating,
active living, healthy weight, and good mental health.
St. Anthony
- A Heart Health Luncheon was held in February for Community Health staff
in the St. Anthony area.
- Public health nurses are now submitting monthly articles for the local
newspaper on such topics as smoking, healthy eating, and high blood pressure. Plans are in
place for additional health focused topics.
Flower's Cove
- In March, 2001, a public display entitled Healthy Eating was presented
at the Anchor Point Ski Lodge during an all age groups ski competition. Numerous people
participated in the Healthy Heart Trivia Contest Activity and entered their names for the
T-shirt draw.
- A Lifestyle Clinic was held at a local senior's residence February 14,
2001, with 20 people in attendance. Healthy snacks and heart health information were
provided.
- A Lifestyle Clinic was held at the Lion's Club in February, 2001, with
displays including information on: healthy eating, active living, maintaining healthy
blood pressure and diabetes prevention. Thirty people attended the clinic. Healthy snacks
were provided along with a draw for a T-shirt.
