Walking Club Package

Forming a "Walking Club" in your community is a good way to get individuals on the move all year round.

Walking Clubs are designed to be an enjoyable, fun and positive way for people to become heart healthy in their own communities, outdoors in fine weather and inside when it is not.

Walking is an activity for all ages! There are almost as many reasons to walk as there are people who walk. People walk for pleasure, to stay fit, to take a break, to explore the outdoors, to relax troubled feelings and often, just for companionship and good times!

This Walking Club package contains all elements you will need to get your own club started. Participants may decide to walk on their own or possibly as part of a team of two, three or more individuals. All participants will receive a personal walking diary if desired, once per month all individuals and teams in the club con record their distance traveled for the month on a wall chart. You may wish to award prizes for meeting challenging distances like 100 kilometres or the equivalent of walking across the province or the country.

One person should be designated to coordinate the details and keep club members informed.

As your club is set-up, you may want to take advantage of some other promotions as part of the Walking Club by contacting your local Community Health Office. Possibilities include presentations on fitness, walking and other walking clubs. As well, your community may like to challenge another community and compare the distance traveled for a little friendly rivalry!

For more information about the kit, please contact us or the Regional Coalition in your area.
