Community Kitchens

What is a Community Kitchen

A community kitchen is a group of 3 to 5 people who prepare meals together for themselves and for their families.

How does a community kitchen get started?
Who can get involved?
Where does the money come from?
How does a community kitchen work?

You will find the answers to these and other questions by viewing the recently produced video "Community Kitchens: Major Cooking For a Minor Sum" sponsored by Single Parent Association of Newfoundland and the Newfoundland and Labrador Heart Health Program.

This video used along with the manual "Community Kitchens: Taking Affordable Action on Healthy Eating" will help a group to get a community kitchen started and keep it going. The cookbook "Eat to Your Heart's Content, Low Cost Cooking and Nutrition" is a valuable source of nutrition information and heart healthy recipes to use in menu planning.

The cookbook "Eat to Your Heart's Content, Low Cost Cooking and Nutrition", is available for purchase at a cost of $10.00. The video "Community Kitchens: Major Cooking for a minor Sum", is available for purchase at a cost of $20.00.
