Northern Regional Coalition

History

The St. Barbe & Area Healthy Heart Project (In the Plum Point area) was one of the community-based demonstration projects of the NLHHP (1990-1995).

Provincially, it was suggested that Regional Coalitions or Networks should be formed at the community level - to facilitate the diffusion of Heart Health activities in the regions.

In early 1995, this plan for diffusion was presented to, and supported by G.R.H.S. management. Community Health Staff were asked to form and be part of a Regional Coalition.

Before restructuring of GRHS in 1995:

  • Northern, Central, & Western Labrador Heart Health - Northern Coalition
  • Northern Nfld., Southern Labrador - Southern Coalition

{Each with a chairperson + 5 or 6 Community Health Staff as members}.

In spring 1995, after G.R.H.S. restructuring, our coalition became "Northern Heart Health Coalition". Membership consisted mainly of Community Health Staff + 2 - 3 community representatives.
