Newfoundland's Provincial Flower is the Pitcher Plant.
The Pitcher Plant is found exclusively in swamps and bogs. Bogs are poor in nutrients and the Pitcher Plant has evolved leaves that are shaped like pitchers. These pitchers trap water. The plant excretes a sweet substance into the trapped water. This sweet smelling water attracts insects into the pitcher. The insects drown,  then decompose and the Pitcher Plant aquires their the nutrients through osmosis. More about Pitcher Plant ?
