Ocre Pit Cove, Newfoundland.
Ocre Pit Cove, Newfoundland, is in the District of Bay de Verde on the North Shore of Conception Bay.

Ocre Pit Cove was a traditional habitat of the Beothuk Indians. The red ocre found on Ocre Pit Cove and the North Shore of Western Bay were of significance to the Beothuk, who smeared their bodies, clothes and tools in the substance.

Even after English began to settle the area around Ocre Pit Cove,  the Beothuks continued to visit the cove.

It is not known when the first settlers occupied Ocre Pit Cove. But the family of Halfyard swere living there in 1774 and continue to live there to this very day.

In 1857 the population of Ocre Pit Cove was 634.
