 P.W. Crummey's Confederation Documents.
P.W. Crummey was born in Western Bay Newfoundland. He was the son of a sea captain. In his youth, Crummey sailed to Labrador. Crummey studied at the Methodist College in New York, U.S.A. before returning to Newfoundland to teach school. He taught in various communities, including Shoal Harbour, Freshwater and Western Bay. Crummey eventually became the Methodist School Superintendent.

Crummey was active in the Methodist Guards and in the Orange Lodge. He became Grand Master of the Newfoundland Loyal Orange Lodge in 1937. Crummey served as a Justice of the Peace and as a Commissioner for the Supreme Court of Newfoundland. In the Second World War Crummey  volunteered as a member of the R.C.A.F. Aircraft Observation Corps. Also, Crummey was an Officer for the United Church of Canada.

In 1947 Crummey represented the District of Bay de Verde at the National Convention, where he advocated a return to Responsible Government.

PLEMAN WELLINGTON CRUMMEY, a Member of the National Convention of Newfoundland and one of the Members of the Delegation from the Convention which is proceeding to Ottawa for a conference withrepresentitives of His Majestiy's Government in the Dominion of Canada. Any courtesy that could be extended to facilitate his entry into Canada and his travelling arrangements therein would be highly appreciated. Given under my hand and the seal of the Department of Home affairs at St. John's Newfoundland, this 9th day of June, A.D. 1947.
