The Royal St. John's Regatta Hall of Fame
John Coaker
John Jonas Coaker rowed 35 times on Quidi Vidi Lake between 1885 and 1891.
While he specialized in sculling, he was a member of many Total Abstinence
Society crews that either won or placed well. An example of his great ability
was demonstrated in the 1891 Regatta when he rowed in seven races and won
more than eight pounds.
John Perlin
John Perlin served on the Regatta Committee from the mid-1950's to mid-1980's.
He headed the Committee as president for two years after filling every other
position on the executive. It was during his time as an executive member
that many worthwhile changes were made in the organization and operation of
the Regatta.
John O'Neill
John "Jackie" O'Neill was regarded as one of the finest strokes to participate
in the St. John's regatta, especially between 1932 and 1948. Rowing with
Labourers and L.S.P.U. crews he earned a universal reputation for
sportsmanship and the title "Gentleman of the Pond". While registering more
than his share of wins and seconds, his crew's "one-stroke" win over
St. Joseph's Labourers at the 1932 Regatta is recorded as his most outstanding
performance.
Adrian O'Keefe
Adrian O'Keefe may be best known for his many contributions to the Placentia
Regatta but he owns an impressive career with the St. John's Regatta,
including back-to-back championship performances in 1976 and '77. His St. John's
coxswaining career started in 1968 and continued up to 1993 when he steered
the third place crew in the championship race. He is given credit for a
great deal of inter-exchange of crews between St. John's and Placentia.
