In January 1996 a General Election was called in Newfoundland & Labrador. At this time, the fledgling Newfoundland & Labrador Green Party Association was defunct.

J. Crummey ran as an independent candidate in the provincial electoral district of Quidi Vidi. His platform was based upon environmental conservation and sustainability.

M. Riehl performed the duties of Registered Agent and a campaign office was opened at 186 Duckworth Street, St. John's.

Crummey received 124 votes in the election.
