Gaultois Newfoundland

Gaultois Newfoundland is a small community situated in a remote location on he south coast of Newfoundland, Canada. You are able to reach Gaultois only by sea plane or ship.

Gaultois is composed of a number of  families who have fished the ocean for generations. In recent years, factory trawlers have decimated the north atlantic fish stocks. Many species of groundfish face endangerment and extinction. The inshore fishermen of Gaultois and other communities have been put out of work and displaced. At present, in Gaultois, FPI operates a fish plant for redfish and shrimp.

The Green Party recognizes the failure of draggers as an environmentally and/or economically viable long term endeavour. The Green Party would like to see an emphasis placed on inshore and nearshore fisheries. With a system of maritime habitat parks, a new system of fisheries quotas and revised fisheries reguations. The Green Party believes that rural communities across Canada should be preserved.
