(Letter to a student's Home Room teacher)
6 September 2007
Dear
As this new school year starts, children from Bahá'í families are entering new schools and new classes. The Bahá'í Community in St. John's wishes to assist in building understanding between the teachers and school administrators, and the children and their parents. A small information package has been prepared, and is enclosed, which provides some basic information about:
The
Bahá'í Faith and its World Community, a fact
sheet
a list
of Holy Days to be observed
There are references to the Baha’i Faith and
related material throughout the Religious Education texts for Grades 4
to 9 which were introduced in September 2003. Material on the
Baha'i Faith was prepared at the request of the Avalon East School
Board to participate in a multi-Faith Teachers' Professional
Day. This is available at:
More information about the Bahá'í Faith in this province and around the world may be found on the web site maintained by the Bahá'í communities of Mount Pearl and St. John's, with links to the national and international sites:
The observance of the Bahá'í Holy Days is an important part of Bahá'í life. We are accordingly requesting that the children be allowed to observe the Holy Days, and not go to school on these days.
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact the parents of the children, or the Assembly.
With warmest greetings
The Spiritual Assembly of the Bahá'ís of St. John's
