The put-in is the downstream side of the bridges on Prince Gradient 16 m/k

of Wales Dr., where Rennies Mill empties out of Long

Pond behind the MUN. Parking is available in the lots for 83 fpm

the government buildings at this location.

There is a single rapid located at the eastern end of Quidi

Vidi Lake. It is the outlet of the lake into the ocean in the

community of Quidi Vidi. Park on the northern side of the

river and put-in on the lake for this rapid.

The take-out is located at the pagoda beside the last rapid

on the river. There is set of stairs conveniently placed to

aid your ascent from the river. Parking is available on

the street beside the little park. It is also only a short 15

min walk back to the put-in and you get lots of great

looks when you portage through town.
Detailed Description of the River
Rennies Mill is one of those runs that you wish had water all the time. It would actually make
living in a city tolerable, it even has a surf wave.

The run starts on a flat, shallow section. Beware that there is steel in the put-in eddy and it is
not a good spot to practice rolls. After the first bend to the right the river starts to pick up. It
is just a bit of waves and boogy water, but the most significant hazard on Rennies Mill
becomes apparent here. The TREES! Rennies is run during floods and the water is in the
trees and backyards. Trees are perfect wrapping implements, especially for a swimmer, and
there is likely very little that can be done for the trapped swimmer. So, be careful.

The first rapid is beside the hospital and there is a couple of sketchy eddies in the trees on
