levels

Distance 3.3
km

Travel east out of St. John's on the TCH to the exit for Gradient 25 m/k

RD. #90. Turn right (NW) and travel 4.3 km down RD.

#90. The put-in is at the second bridge crossing a stream, 134 fpm

which is North Arm River. Section: Max

Take-out Northing Easting: Distance 0.6

Gradient 48 m/k

From the Put-in travel a further 2.6 km to a four way 256 fpm

intersection with RD. #60. Turn left on RD. #60 and

continue for 1.8 km to the a major bridge over the river.

This is a good point to stop and scout the steepest section

of the run and the horrible undercut on the downstream

brideg support. Continue down the RD. #60 for 440 m and

turn right onto a side road. At this point there should be a

bridge over the river where it enters the ocean.
Detailed Description of the River
First Descent: (19??) Jim Price and ????

April 13, 2003

We put-on a where the old train bridge crosses the river, just above the steepest portion of this
river. The river was pretty low on the day we ran it this spring, but provides an excellent
opportunity to practice eddy turns and boat scouting. The initial drops wind down through big
boulders and narrow slots. For the most part it is wise to follow the most flow. A couple of
distinct rapids exist in this section and are mostly run on the river left side. Two of them have
nice, narrow slot moves on river right, but both slots are very pinny.

When the river takes a sharp turn to the right buckle down and get ready for the fun to start.
The horizon drops away at this point and the run into the bridge rapid begins. The first rapid in
this section is right down the middle for a nice boof into a river right eddy. The rapid under the
bridge (Mr. Hyde - III - V+) changes with water levels. At low water it can be run anywhere,
but at higher flows a dangerous hole forms on the downstream side of the river left bridge
